Viral Proteins

A virus is an infectious microbe consisting of a segment of nucleic acid (either DNA or RNA) surrounded by a protein coat. It is an infectious agent that can only replicate within a host organism. It cannot replicate alone, instead, it must infect cells and use components of the host cell to make copies of itself. Often, a virus ends up killing the host cell in the process, causing damage to the host organism. Well-known examples of viruses causing human disease include AIDS, COVID-19, measles and smallpox.

Viral proteins are proteins generated by a virus. A viral protein is both a component and a product of a virus. As viruses hijack much of their host's cellular machinery to support their life cycle, they encode very few of their own genes; viral proteins are therefore generally structural components, for the viral envelope and capsid. Non-structural proteins and regulatory or accessory proteins can also be viral proteins.

Most viral structural proteins are components of the capsid and the envelope of the virus. The genetic material of a virus is stored within a viral protein structure called the capsid. The capsids of some viruses are enclosed in a membrane called the viral envelope. In most cases, the viral envelope is obtained by the capsid from the host cell's plasma membrane when a virus leaves its host cell through a process called budding. Viral nonstructural proteins are proteins coded for by the genome of the virus and are expressed in infected cells. Some of these viral nonstructural protein functions are replicon formation, immunomodulation, and transactivation of viral structural protein-encoding genes.

After years of hard work, a complete platform for protein expression, fermentation, protein testing and large-scale process technology has been established. We aim to be a one-stop CRO services company that helps our clients streamline all aspects of their work and trials. Combining our existing four major protein platforms: Prokaryotic Protein Expression Platform, Mammalian Protein Expression platform, Yeast Protein Expression platform and Insect Cell Protein Expression platform, a variety of viral proteins have been developed. At present, we can provide dozens of viral antigens including Coxsackie Virus, EV71, H10N3, HBV, HCMV, HCoV, Hepatitis A Virus, HIV, HRSV, HRSV-F, Influenza A, Influenza B, Japanese Encephalitis, Rabies Virus, Rift Valley Fever virus, Rotavirus, Sabin Poliovirus, SARS, West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, etc.

All viral protein products are subject to strict QC validation and are available in small packs for trial. Customizable buffers and services are supported. KMD Bioscience is committed to providing high-quality protein products to meet the experimental needs of scientists. The only wish of us is to provide high quality products and services.
